It will be a balanced budget for School District 57 in the 2012-13 school year.  Trustees approved a 139 million dollar operating budget for next school year.  Finance Committee Chair Sharon Bourassa say the board will now look at how to spend a 2.9 million dollar surplus.

"As a board we will discuss that," says Bourassa, "to see how much we want to hold as a contingency fund so that if something does go awry we need some funds to protect that."

Senior district staff presented trustees with different options of how to spend the surplus.  Ideas being considered range from mentoring teachers to integrating technology into classrooms.
