Prince George, B.C.

Offset company Pacific Carbon Trust has issued a request for proposals in British Columbia for emission reductions from bio-coal.

The company announced plans to buy offsets equal to up to 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide at the Bioenergy Conference in Prince George.

Managing Director David Moffat says the goal is to support the emerging bio-coal industry while reducing emissions.

"We think Prince George is going to be one of the areas where we'll expect a significant interest, given the great forest  product industry you have there as well as the biomass."

Bio-coal is a low carbon replacement for fossil fuels made by heating wood waste to 220 degrees celsius.

Companies can respond to the request for proposals from this afternoon to May 31, 2013.
