A Prince George teenager has died following a car crash near Quesnel this morning.

A 17 year old boy was killed when the car he was a passenger in crashed on the Nazko Highway at 2:30am.

Quesnel RCMP Constable Krista Vrolyk says police were called to the scene after a number of reports came in about a fire.

"Officers attended and located a vehicle in the ditch fully engulfed in flames. Investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling west on the Nazko Highway when it left the roadway, hit the ditch and overturned, causing it to catch fire. A 19 year old Quesnel male was located on scene and was arrested for impaired driving causing death."

Vrolyk says the 17 year old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 19 year old driver was taken to Quesnel hospital and released, then transported to the Quesnel RCMP detachment.

He was released to appear in court on October 16th for a charge of impaired driving causing death.
