18 Prince George homes remain under an evacuation order with high water theatening their properities yet many refuse to leave.

Despite being ordered to get out of the area, there is nothing the City can do to physically remove them.

City Spokeswoman Chris Bone says there is no precise method for determining when people should be asked to leave, but it is a matter of being better safe than sorry.

She says the city relies on information from the B.C. River Forecast Centre in making such calls.

"That informs our emergency operations centre to do some very specific things in order to ensure that we don't have loss of life or loss of public infrastructure," said Bone.

Bone says while no homeowner is forced to comply with an evacuation order, it is issued as a matter of safety both for residents of the area and for emergency personnel who may need clear access.
