Sink Hole Near Topley Still Causing Traffic Woes

Topley, B.C.

Traffic has started to flow through Topley again.

Highway 16 was closed in both directions for most of the weekend because of a sink hole just east of the community. Small vehicles were allowed to use Howell's Road as a detour but commercial trucks were stranded. The road is now opened to single lane alternating traffic.

Lakes District Maintenance Regional Operating Manager Carey Derksen says he isn't sure when it will be fixed yet.  "Right now, it is in the assessment stage. The ministry is getting it surveyed and a geo tech is assessing it. Nothing will be for sure this week."

Derksen says motorists should still expect up to 30 minute delays.
