Canadian Blood Services is marking "World Blood Donor Day" by asking Prince George residents to donate blood.

Spokeswoman Olga Pazukha says the push for donations is an effort to help meet the ongoing need for blood.

She says 130,000 donations and 14,500 new donors are needed in the BC and Yukon Region this year.

Pazukha says employees at blood donation clinics do their best to encourage return and new blood donors.

"All of our clinics and all of our clinic staff are constantly making sure that more and more people are able to come out and donate.  We encourage everyone to make an appointment online at blood.ca or call 1-888-2-DONATE."

The local blood donor clinic is open every Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
