A thunderstorm in Prince George on Saturday did not spark any wildfires locally.

However, lightning did lead to nine new fires in other parts of the Prince George Fire Centre.

Fire Information Officer Jillian Chimko says six of the fires were small, with the largest being 2.5 hectares in size.

"We have four of our fires that have been called out and we have two that are still being currently actioned; one is in the Fort St. James area and the other ones in Vanderhoof have been put out."

The Fire Centre thanks the public for helping fire crews locate many of the fires over the weekend.

To report a wildfire or unattended campfire, call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone.
