The District of Vanderhoof is hoping to use its $20,000 age-friendly grant to encourage people to retire to the area.  Vanderhoof Mayor Gerry Thiessen says this will be one of the key focuses as they make their official community plan.  Thiessen says they're hiring a consultant to set up a planning group.

"Of people and start looking at what we need to do in our community that is going to keep people here, retain them in our community," says Thiessen, "and have them find our town of Vanderhoof as a very viable place to spend their retirement."

Thiessen says some preliminary talks include rezoning for seniors housing.  He says they will also look at what types of recreation the town can provide for seniors.
