School District 57 is one of several school districts in B.C. to receive funding through the government's carbon neutral capital program.

The program supports energy efficiency upgrades, and Prince George schools Glenview and Blackburn have received over 384 thousand dollars in funding.

Secretary Treasurer Bryan Mix says while the cost of the projects in those schools is a lot more than the funding provided, the money will help greatly.

"The projects to do the mechanical reviews and the mechanical upgrades are a lot more than 384 thousand dollars. We were already staging it and that will help assist the actual development of the program. The two schools is around 2 million dollars, so that's 384 thousand of the 2 million."

Mix says at Glenview they're doing mechanical upgrades, and at Blackburn they're replacing the boilers.

He adds that they're also doing lighting projects this summer, which will have the benefit of reducing the carbon offsets.
