With schools re-opening their doors next week, Telus is stepping up once again to provide backpacks and supplies for less fortunate families.

Telus community Ambassadors are assembling and distributing 10-thousand such "Kits for Kids", including 600 in Prince George.

Spokesman Shawn Hall says the number of backpacks provided is based on a need in the community.

"When you think about going back to school it's a stressful time as it is, and for many families you've got to choose between having all the school supplies you need and maybe having one new outfit of clothing. That's no choice that any parent or child should have to make."

The backpacks are delivered to principals and administrators who then distribute them discreetly.

Over the last seven years, Telus has provided 60-thousand of the back-to-school gifts.
