The City of Prince George continues to make efforts to prevent any massive wildfires in the community.

With funding from the Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative, Manager of Community Forests Dan Adamson says over the last 6 to 8 years, the city has received 8 or 9 million dollars for these preventative measures.

"We've managed to secure kind of a ratio of about 9 to 1 in terms of matching funding. So we're continuing to apply for grants through the UBCM program to get some additional funding to do some additional sites."

Adamson says in areas where forests are close to neighbourhoods that are rated as high to extreme wildfire hazards, they go in and do pruning and removing of dead or hazardous trees.

He says this practice can reduce the intensity of a fire if it were to occur.
