Had it not been for a few rainy days at the end of the month, September would have been an extremely dry one.

According to Environment Canada's latest figures, only 42% of the normal amount of rain fell last month.

Meteorologist Jim Steele says it was just a continuation of what's been a very dry mid part of 2012.

"Once we got into the mid part of July onward it's been pretty dry so that definitely shows less than normal precipitation so far this year," said Steele.

Because it was such a clear month, the average daily high was 19.7 degrees, far above the normal 16.4.

But the average low of three degrees was nearly a full degree below normal for September.

Steele says we will see a few clear days yet in the medium-range forecast, but the late summer heat is certainly gone as we are in full blown fall mode.
