NewsForest Practices Board Audits BC Timber Sales in Fort St. James
Starting this week the Forest Practices Board will audit BC timber sales in the Fort St. James district. Al Gorley is Chair of the board. "What we're going to look at is the BC timber sales operations within the Fort St. James district. So that's all of the operations carried out by the government's BC timber sales group, and the licence holders that actually do the logging under that program." Gorley says they'll look at whether the government part of the operation is complying with legal requirements, as well as the licence holders themselves. He says the field work takes a week or two, then they analyze the information and prepare a draft report, which takes about 6 months or more before it is made public. The audit area includes several large lake systems like the Takla, Trembleur, Stuart, Inzana, Pinchi and Tezzeron lakes. Most Viewed Stories
