The Mayor of Vanderhoof says he's dissapointed with the changes made to the Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund.  The fund was to made to build a water release facility at Kenney Dam, however last month it was announced the fund will be used for other projects along the Nechako River.  Also people applying for funding need to provide at least half of the money for projects.  Gerry Thiessen says the district relied on the NEEF to address different problems along the river.

"We as a community have learned to live with what we have now, but certainly there are some things that we would like to mititgate," says Thiessen, "whether they are species at risk, fish stocks, river rehab or environmental things along the river."

The decision to change how the fund is used was made after studies and consultations were done and found the NEEF could be used for other projects.  The Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund was set up by Rio Tinto Alcan and the provincial government.
