New home construction in Prince George is pacing ahead of last year, despite a slight drop in September.

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports work began on 11 new homes last month, compared to 16 a year earlier.

Year to date numbers look better, with construction starting on 154 houses this year, up from 131 last year at this time.

Market Analyst Carol Frketich says it is common for numbers to flucuate slightly throughout the year.

"You often see fluctuations in the number of housing starts month to month, but the overall trend for this year is a slightly higher level of new home construction for the Prince George area."

Across British Columbia, year to date total starts have reached close to 20,000, with multiple starts making up the bulk of that number.
