The Provincial Government has released its response to 22 recommendations made by a special committee on timber supply.

The "Beyond the Beetle: A Midterm Timber Supply Action Plan" contains 9 sustained and 11 new actions to show a committment to forest renewal.

Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson says a lot of money has been invested in forest management since 2001.

"The action plan outlines our decade long battle against the mountain pine beetle since 2001, as you know we have invested over $884-million dollars in forest management."

Parliamentary Secretary for Forestry John Rustad says less wood has been harvested over the last decade.

"We are harvesting less wood today than we did a decade or even two decades ago. That's because of many changes that have happened in industry and world economics. For all the tree's we are harvesting, we are re-foresting."

The action plan also includes better growing practices and a promise to enable more logging in the Central Interior.
