NewsBCGEU Women Activists Set Up Outside Shirley Bond's Office
Women activists of BCGEU were in front of Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond's office this afternoon to bring attention to cuts that have been made to community social services. BCGEU Community Social Services Component Chair, Patsy Harmston, says they also want to bring awareness to the fact that they haven't had a new contract since March. "We've been bargaining for a contract for a few months now. We haven't got one yet, we're not at the table right now but we're still trying to get one. Shirley Bond is the minister involved with a lot of womens issues we deal with, she deals with. We're really directing stuff at the government, because that's who we need to see movement from." Harmston says women who work in community social services are amongst the lowest paid in the public sector, and they've faced a lot of cutbacks - especially group homes. She says they just want to make enough money so that they can stay with the job that they love. Most Viewed Stories
