Changes to governance on BC's backroads are being welcomed with open arms by the Central Interior Logging Association.

The provincial government announced earlier this week natrual resource roads will no longer be classified as a workplace and no longer subject to WorkSafe BC health and safety guidelines.

CILA Executive Director MaryAnne Arcand says it's a logical move which will remove unfair liability rules where the operator of any given road was responsbile for whoever was on it at any given time.

"That will take care of all those situations but not limit the public access to resource roads, or put in possible liabilities and conditions on employers."

The new Resource Road Act still needs to be tabled in the Legislature.

Following that, an industry roundtable, including Arcand, will hammer out more fine details.

Arcand is extremely pleased with the outcome so far and says it's a good step for all backroad users both for industry and recreation.
