A man has been killed in an avalanche 50 kilometers north of Stewart, BC.

Pat Lawrence Desmarais of Telkwa life was claimed while working as a surveyor at a minerals camp around 4:00pm Tuesday.

BC Coroner Barb McLintock says two people were involved in the incident.

"[They] were out working not right in the mine or in the mine camp, but a bit away from it when, very unfortunately, they were hit by an avalanche.  As is often the case in these circumstances, one did manage to get out of the avalanche and escape, but unfortunately the other one was caught up in it."

Avalanche technicians and search crews located the body of the 50 year old deceased man

RCMP say foul play is not suspected so the investigation has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.
