Interactive presentations for kids are marking the kickoff for the "Step In, Step Up" program through the Prince George RCMP's Community Policing Section.

Taking place at the Civic Centre, the program is aimed at elementary and high school students to educate them about the dangers of gang recruitment.

Today, about 200 elementary students are attending workshops and discussions on the issue, including a presentation by Street Spirits Theatre Company.

"What we do is called forum theatre so we actually do our play and then we ask the audience members to come up and fix it, change it, make it right, what would you do to fix this situation if it was happenig to you?" said Street Spirits actor Gwen Hall.

While today's events are geared toward older elementary age kids, tomorrow will feature a high school age seminar featruing an anti-gang video contest.

The Step In, Step Up program is funded through the province's Civil Forfeiture Program.
