University of Northern BC students will be collecting non-perishable food instead of candy tonight.

About 40 people have signed up to take part in Trick or Eat, which is Canada's largest youth-led food drive.

Spokeswoman Marlina Hawes says all food collected this Halloween will be donated to the Salvation Army.

"We were really excited that we were able to raise 3,100 pounds of food last year, so we were hoping to do the same this year and even beat it."

Hawes says students will canvass the College Heights area because it's close to UNBC and bus routes.

Those who are not able to donate food to Trick or Eaters can donate money online at www.trickoreat.ca.
