A new Canadian Blood Services campaign that starts on November 1, 2012 has been inspired by a Prince George military officer.

21 year old Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick died in March 2010 after being injured while serving in Afghanistan.

With Remembrance Day approaching, spokeswoman Amy Erickson says its a good time to pay tribute to Fitzpatrick and other military personnel by donating blood.

"His family wants to share his story and they do credit the medical care he received and blood donation in allowing him to spend a few extra weeks with his family before he passed away."

People are encouraged to pay tribute to military service men and women all November by making a blood donation appointment.

Stories about who people are donating blood for can be submitted at clinics and online at www.thankyourdonor.ca.
