The young driver of a car that went over an embankment on Highway 16 has died.

A 16 year old boy passed away as a result of injuries on June 29th in Vancouver hospital.

On June 28th the boy was driving a car traveling westbound on Highway 16 when it went over the embankment on the Yellowhead Bridge.

Emergency crews found the boy in the vehicle with his seatbelt on, and he was taken to Prince George hospital in critical condition.

He was an unlicensed driver from Prince George.

RCMP say the car he was driving ended up more than 100 metres away from where it left the road.

They say speed and alcohol were likely contributors to the crash.
