NewsPG Jobless Rate Edges Up
Prince George gained 500 jobs last month despite the city's unemployment rate edging up slightly to 6.9% from 6.8% in May. The rate is still behind this time last year when Prince George enjoyed a healthy 6% jobless rate. Jobs Minister Pat Bell says the jobless rate increase can be attributed to a larger workforce entering the city, which in itself is a good indication. "What's really exciting is that they're in the core areas like forestry, like mining, like manufacturing, like transportation, those are the sorts of jobs that we've targeted in our jobs plan and we're seeing real results," said Bell. The provincial jobless rate tumbled last month to 6.6% compared to 7.2% in May. B.C. continues to fare very well compared to other provinces when it comes to job growth coming in just behind Alberta over the past 12 months. Most Viewed Stories
