NewsCN Rail Expanding Sidings
CN Rail has begun building extended sidings on its B.C. North Line in response to significant traffic volume growth. Spokesman Mark Hallman says the work will take place at five locations between Edmonton and Prince Rupert. "We are installing longer sidings capable of accomodating 12 thousand foot trains at five locations. One is Cariboo, the next is Robin Creek, another in Moricetown, another in Cedarvale and another in Exstew," said Hallman. The sidings are currently six to seven thousand feet in length, and will each be extended by five thousand feet. A siding is a low-speed track locating alongside a single-track railroad that allows two trains to pass each other. The construction is part of a $155 million expenditure to address increased traffic along the corridor. Most Viewed Stories
