The Northern Skills Training Pilot is starting to show positive results nine months after being launched.

Almost 300 United Steelworkers members have signed up for courses or training through the program.

Prince George Sawmill Human Resourses Manager, Gurneal Jaswal, says Canfor is a big supporter of the pilot.

"So presently, Prince George Sawmill has 14 employees participating in the program in areas such as heavy equipment, operation, pre-apprenticeship training and training in health and safety."

Jaswal says the training is important for Canfor as it helps employees stay current with new technology.

The Provincial Government invested $3-million in the pilot, which began in February and runs until March 2013.
