Tour de North Kicks off 11th Year in September
The annual Tour de North is coming up next month, where members of the RCMP and a few others will ride 860km on their bicycles from Prince George to Prince Rupert, to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer research.
Tour Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society, Erin Reynolds, says the Cops for Cancer event started 11 years ago.
"Tour de North really has been built on a grassroots community of individuals that wanted to help make a difference for children going through cancer."
The tour helps raise money for the Cancer Society's support programs as well, and Stacey Stolte's 12 year old son Noah - who has leukemia - has benefitted from their programs.
She says Noah was first diagnosed with the disease in March of last year.
"Then we spent the greater part of the next 13 months in Vancouver. He was in the hospital the whole time for various treatments."
Noah was able to attend Camp Goodtimes - a camp for children with cancer and their families - at no cost.
The tour starts in Prince George on September 14th and will end in Prince Rupert on September 20th.
Donations can be made online at cops-for-cancer-bc.ca or at the Cancer Society office.
