A lack of locum coverage has forced the closure of the ER, which has had temporary closure for the past several months.

While the medical clinic has been helpful for those in need of emergency care, Northern Health spokeswoman April Hughes says it too will experience some closure this month.

"The medical clinic in Fort St. James is a privately owned business and the physican who runs and owns the clinic is actually on vacation for a large portion of the month of July, at this point in time there's only minimal coverage in regards to having a physician available in the clinic," said Hughes.

The clinic will be closed July 16th, the 18th to the 23rd, the 25th, and the 27th through to August 3rd.

Hughes says if someone needs emergency care while the clinic is also closed, they can call the BC Nurse Line for advice, or go to the ER in Vanderhoof.

She adds that in regards to getting locum coverage, there are actually three physicians visiting Fort St. James on Thursday looking to possibly work there permanently.
