NewsHousing Starts Skyrocket in July
A trend of improved housing starts in Prince George continued last month as the number of new construction starts more than tripled compared to last year. A total of 30 new homes broke ground last month compared to just nine in July 2011. Carol Frketich with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says it is a good indicator for the economy as a whole. "It is an indicator of strength in the area and reflects resale market conditions as well, population growth, a number of factors behind that level of activity," said Frketich. Outside of Chilliwack, which saw a four-fold rise in new housing starts in July, Prince George led the province in new home construction. Year-to-date new home starts are up 46% in Prince George compared to a provincial average of just nine percent. Most Viewed Stories
