The Prince George Public Library has reached its goal of increasing literacy locally and in Haiti.

Young readers have raised $600 to buy book boxes for Haitian children by doing reading based activities .

Program Coordinator Ruth Bueler says Friends of the Library donated the money, but children had to earn it.

"I requested it, they gave us a donation of $600 and then for each activity that the children completed, a dollar was earned from that $600."

Plan Canada will be handed the donation to pay for the construction of 10 portable book boxes in Haiti.

Each box will be filled with 30 books in Creole and French and sent to schools without access to books.
