Construction of a mini bike park and accessible playground begins Wednesday in Prince George.

Parks and Solid Waste Services Manager Flavio Viola says facilities will be built behind Duchess Park.

"We're going to be removing the topsoil there and taking out material and stockpiling it somewhere else on the site, getting it ready for the installation of the mini bike park as well as the accessible playground."

Mastercraft Projects will build the playground and Alpine Bike Parks will construct the mini bike park.

The City is contributing $246-thousand for the project and the Province has pitched in $400-thousand.  Third party donations for the accessible playground amount to $46-thousand.

Construction should be complete by the end of August.
