A long-time member of the UNBC Athletics Department has been given her first coach of the year award.

Timberwolves Women's basketball coach Loralyn Murdoch has been voted the PacWest's best in a year she has led her team to a 15-1 regular season finish, best in the province.

"It's always nice to be recognized by your peers, it's great for UNBC, it's great for the program, at the end of the day though I think it means more to me and the team that we have some success and do well at the provincials," said Murdoch.

Murdoch began her coaching career at UNBC in 1997 and was named head coach three years later.

She says she is proud of being able to work with a program that is now consistently among the best in the province.  Last year, she led the Timberwolves to a bronze finish at provincials and are looking to improve on that later this month.
