RCMP are looking for a person who has been posing as a canvasser for a charitable organization.

Police have received reports of a woman going door-to-door asking for money for a national charity she does not represent.

Corporal Craig Douglass says the woman does not have official pledge sheets or recepit books issued by the charity.

He says residents are advised to always ask canvassers for identification.

"Legitimate canvassers will not be offended by that request and will in fact probably provide it without even asking."

RCMP say this kind of fraud is unusual and it should not stop people from making donations.

Call police if you suspect the woman in question has knocked on your door.
