NewsFlood Insurance Could be on Horizon
In the wake of more spring flooding in the North, several homeowners may be in need of relief for damaged property. Unfortunately for them when it comes to home insurance, no one is covered for flood damage. BCAA Insurance director of underwriting Patricia Sterling says since so few homeowners would ever make use of it, the risk to insure so few is far too great. "It would really only be the people who know they are going to experience some flooding who would purchase the coverage and that would make the coverage so expensive that it probably would be prohibitive, they wouldn't be able to afford it," said Sterling. While no B.C. insurance companies currently offer flood protection, Sterling says there is a discussion going between companies and government about potential plans down the road. As it stands the only help available for flood damage is through the provincial emergency assistance program. Most Viewed Stories
