Local SportsPG RCMP Pleased with Crime Reduction Results
Prince George's crime rate is still far above the national average, but the city's top cop is pleased overall crime is dropping, in some cases significantly. Last week, Statistics Canada released the 2011 Crime Severity Index results for communities across the country. Compared to 2010, Prince George saw a 17 point drop in the overall crime severity index to 159, while violent crime dropped about 22%. Superintendent Eric Stubbs says the drop can be largely attributed to hard working officers specifically targetting prolific offenders. "In 2011 they had 15 prolific offenders that they were targetting, nine of them are in jail. The remaining six at most times throughout 2011 were on some type of judiciary conditions," said Stubbs. Stubbs says the amount of gang activity appears to have been reduced while it still remains a problem for the RCMP. Prince George has the 14th highest Crime Severity Index rating in Canada with North Battleford, Saskatchewan rated as the most crime-ridden city in the country. Most Viewed Stories
