Local SportsPG RCMP Sets up Domestic Violence Unit
In order to help combat what is an epidemic of domestic violence across B.C., the Prince George RCMP detachment now has a dedicated Domestic Violence Unit. Staffed by Corporal Carla Cook, she will work with general duty officers and community agencies to help identify both victims and suspects. She says the detachment dealt with over 900 domestic abuse cases last year alone. "My first priority is reviewing all domestic violence files that we attend, every single one of them, whether it be verbal, threatening, breaches, whatever the circumstance might be," said Cook. She hopes by working closer with community resources like the Ministry of Children and Family Development or Carrier Sekani Family Services, more victims will receive the help they need.
