Highway 16 east of Prince George is now open to traffic, after it had been closed due to a fatal collision this morning.

Staff Sargeant Pat McTiernan says emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision just before 8 this morning, where a westbound Ford Mustang crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound Chevrolet pick-up truck.

The Mustang then burst into flames, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

McTiernan says the crash is still under investigation.

"The investigation is currently continuing, at this time we're looking into the cause of the crash. The B.C. Coroners Service is working with our collision reconstructionist and investigators to determine what the possible causable factors might be. They're looking into the fact that the driver may have fallen asleep."

The passenger in the Mustang was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries, while the two people in the pick-up truck are being treated for non-life threatening but moderate injuries.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Prince George Regional Provincial Traffic Services Unit.
