NewsCNC Faces Budget Shortfall
The College of New Caledonia is facing a budget shortfall of nearly $2 million for the coming year. CNC's Board of Directors were provided with a fiscal update at a board meeting today in which the estimated $1.8 million shortfall was announced. College President John Bowman says it's not unfamiliar territory. "This time last year we were in the same position. It results from a combination of unavoidable cost increases and overall revenues that aren't increasing," said Bowman. College administration is asking the Board to consider a 2% tuition increase across the board. But such an increase would only provide an extra $150,000 meaning early retirement packages and layoffs will be considered. The board will not make final budget decisions until April.
