Amendments to a highways and consolidated parking bylaw will allow the City of Prince George to impound abandoned vehicles sooner.

Manager of Bylaw Services Guy Gusdal says the value of a car that can be towed and the amount of time the city has to keep it have been changed.

"The value that can be towed directly to the junker has gone from $400 to $1000. In terms of dates for notices to the last registered owner, right now it's within 30 days, we want to get a letter out within 2 days. Then following that notice it'd be 10 days for the owner to come claim the vehicle."

Gusdal says right now with the 30 day wait period the City is incurring costs that they can't get back without trying to find the owners and taking it through small claims.
