NewsField Fire off Highway 16
A field fire off Highway 16 East kept firefighters busy for just over an hour this afternoon. Fire Chief John Lane says about 1 acre of hay was burned. "We received a call at 12:56 this afternoon. The fire was located between Graves Road and Old Cariboo Road on Highway 16. There's a field on the south side right near the new digital highway sign." Lane says the cause of the fire is actually a little unique. Since the wind was strong out there, it lifted hay up from the ground and the hay touched the hydro lines, which ignited it. The hay fell back down to the field, and the farmer of that land had just cut the hay yesterday so there was still quite a bit of fuel on the field. No one was injured. Most Viewed Stories
