NewsMinistry of Environment Looking for Cause of Sulphur Odour in PG
If you've noticed a funky smell around Prince George lately, you're not the only one. Dennis Fudge with the Ministry of Environment says the cause of the smell is not yet known, but there a few possibilities. "There's several potential sources, but there's no definite answer. We have been getting a lot of abnormally high sulphur levels in the last 3 or 4 days. It is a sulphur compound, and sometimes people can smell and they know distinctly what's causing it, what's the source, but we're getting a mix of comments from people." Fudge says he does know that the smell occurs with northeast and easterly winds, and at night it can be the strongest, which usually means it's coming from a low level source such as a lagoon, pond, or short stack. He adds that they want the public to contact the complaint line at 250-565-4487 when they smell the odour, and say where they're smelling it. Most Viewed Stories
