With food allergies becoming more of a concern, School District 57 has been working to make sure students and teachers are well prepared if an allergic reaction happens.  Under school district policies, records of students with allergies are kept and an emergency plan is made for each student.  Superintendent Brian Pepper says plans for students with allergies are reviewed annually.

"And this whole process involves often school staff, including the principal it may involve a counsellor," says Pepper, "the classroom teacher and also the parent, sometimes it may involve the local health authority."

Pepper says medication for students with allergies is also stored at schools.  He says for students with severe allergies, teachers remain extra aware of a student having a reaction.
