Prince George, B.C.

At least six different groups have expressed interest in designing and constructing Prince George's Wood Innovation and Design Centre slated to be built on the old Prince George Hotel site.

Jobs, Tourism, and Innovation Minister Pat Bell says the oroginal plan for a ten-storey structure is now more of an ideal target than a requirement.

"That's the advice that we got when we went through the request for expression of interest stage. We're hopeful that bidders will come forward with a larger proposal."

The budget for the building has also been upped to 25 million dollars.

Bell says a two-stage bid process is now underway with an aim to narrow the field down to three bidders which will all present designs and construction budgets.

Construction is set to begin later this year with completion by the end of 2014.
