As Prince George deals with the second heavy moth infestation in as many years, we could be in the clear for the next while.

UNBC Entomologist Staffen Lindgren says even though the city seems to be covered in the creatures, it is not unusual.

"In the early to mid nineties there were some fairly significant outbreaks in various areas around Prince George so this is not anything out of the ordinary I don't think," said Lindgren.

Lindgren says typically after several years of a heavy moth presence, a virus or parasite significantly reduces the population and restarts the cycle.

He says the moths typically feed on aspen trees, but will go after pretty much any vegetation.

They do not pose any real harm although Lindgren says humans can show allergy symptoms if exposed to a lot of them over a lengthy period.
