More than 30 First Nations people in north central BC are taking advantage of a new mine industry training project.

20 people will take a 16-week Mining Industry Certification course at CNC's Prince George and Fort St. James campuses in October.

An additional 13 people will take a 15-week Environmental Technician Certificate course in Prince George at the end of August.

Jobs Minister Pat Bell says the training programs are being provided through a project involving the Pacific Trail Pipelines Aboriginal Skills Employment Partnership.

"Mining skills are very unique in terms of what is necessary for employment in the industry.  Having this direct training program over 16-weeks will really help First Nations gain employment in the industry."

Bell says the training will help First Nations find jobs at mines like Mt. Milligan, Huckleberry, and Endako.
