Prince George, B.C.

The latest round of funding for B.C.'s Wood First Initiative will have direct results on Northern B.C.

So says Jobs, Tourism, and Innovation Minister Pat Bell.

The province is providing two point three million dollars this year for a variety of wood innovation initiatives including the Canadian Wood Council's Wood Works program.

"Wood Works does the promotion in terms of advancing the use of wood in taller buildings, but FPInnovations really does the structural work that's necessary in order to design taller buildings."

Bell says the research into structural changes with wood will have direct consequences for Prince George's planned Wood Innovation and Design Centre.

Introduced in 2009, Bell expects the Wood First program to take up to a full decade to realize real results.
