A picnic is planned at Fort George Park today to educate Prince George residents about diabetes.

The Canadian Diabetes Association has planned a BBQ, live music, a silent auction and a raffle.

Spokeswoman Jenna Quelch says diabetes touches everyone in some way and awareness is key to prevention.

She says all money raised will benefit people who live in Northern British Columbia and the Yukon.

"The money stays in the northern region and goes to program, services and education," says Quelch.  "So we do a lot of outreach programs, research in the north, and it just contributes to all our programs and services up and around Prince George, and in Northern BC and Yukon."

The third annual picnic in the park is free to attend and runs from 2:00pm to 7:00pm near the bandshell.
