The main event in Barkerville's 150th celebration takes place next weekend.  The National Gold Panning Championships will be taking place at Barkerville Saturday and Sunday.  Guest Experience Manager James Douglas says registration for the gold panning competition is on Saturday between eight and 10 am.

"And it's $10 per event," says Douglas, "so you could for example sign up for the adult panning event which is at 10:45, that would cost $10, but there is a lot of prize money and a lot of spectatualr prizes up for grabs."

Douglas says Pro and King of the Creek competions will happen on Sunday.

Also on Sunday a ceremony commemorating Billy Barker's historic gold find 150 years ago find will take place.
