Trapping in BC Seeing a Comeback

Sunday, August 12, 2012 - 1:33 PM
By Ted Andrew
Prince George, BC

Members of the BC Trappers Association have been seeing an increase in the amount of people interested in trapping.  The association trains about 120 new trappers every year throughout the province.  Past President of the BC Trappers Bob Frederick says every part of BC is on a trapline.

"There are about 2800-2900 traplines in BC," says Fredericks, "and currently there's upwards of 1500 people licensed yearly to trap."

Fredericks says the demand for fur worldwide is rising, causing the trapping industry to seeing a comback.  He says new markets are opening up, including Asia and the Pacific.
