Washington, 18 Sep (EFE).- The president of the United States, Joe Biden, approved this Sunday the declaration of the state of emergency in Puerto Rico before the tropical storm Fiona, which is expected to turn into a hurricane when it arrives on the island. in the next few hours.
With this decision, the president ordered the Department of National Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA, in English) to carry out necessary efforts to “salvar vidas, proteger la property, la salud y la seguridad pública; y evitar una catástrofe en los 78 municipios” de Puerto Rico.
“En concreto, FEMA is authorized to mobilize and distribute at its discretion the necessary resources to alleviate the impact of this emergency,” informed the White House in a communique.
The Federal Government of the United States will finance 75% of emergency measures.
